Silver High School students Nicolas Bobo, Tiffany Bernstein and Celeste Romero recently competed in the HOSA- Future Health Professionals competition, which showcases students’ passion for healthcare and their readiness to meet the industry’s challenges head-on. Nicolas took second place in Sports Medicine, demonstrating a masterful understanding of the field. Tiffany took third place for her knowledge in Veterinary Science and Celeste ranked in the top 5 in Clinical Nursing for her skills and commitment to the field. Congratulations to all three students.
As a reminder, The Commons: Center for Food Security and Sustainability will be hosting a YCC Summer Program and are looking for youth between the ages of 14 to 18 to be a part of their 6-week paid program. Participants will be helping with tasks around the facilities including; cleaning the grounds, packing bags for the Alimentos Food Program and more. Those interested can pick up an application at The Commons, located at 501 East 13th Street in Silver City. The deadline to apply and submit an application is May 10th.
The Hurley Community Library has been working on adding more books and activities for the public to enjoy. Over the past months, the library has acquired hundreds of books, various board games, numerous acoustic and electric guitars, a PlayStation 4 and a seed library. The library is currently open Thursdays from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to noon but it is working on extending their hours to more days a week in the upcoming months.
The Deming Municipal Court will be offering an Amnesty Program for any Luna County resident interested in having a fresh start and clearing their name. Those with Failure to Pay warrants can visit the court and discuss paying off their debt with the judge without being sentenced to jail time. The program will run from May 1st to May 31st. The Village of Columbus will be having a free food distribution drive tomorrow, May 1st at 11:00 a.m. at the Columbus Fire and EMS Department. Those interested must present an electric bill or rent receipt. The food drive is on a first come first served basis while supplies last.
