In recognition of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, Luna County proudly honors the dedicated men and women of its Central Dispatch team for their unwavering commitment and service. These professionals play a critical role in maintaining public safety by providing essential guidance over the phone and coordinating the dispatch of law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services. Their work is very important to the well-being and security of the community.

During a recent meeting, the Grant County Commission approved a resolution in support of Freeport-McMoRan’s Tyrone Peak and EMMA exploration plan projects, which aim to extend the operational life of the Tyrone Mine for several more years. The Commission also supported the regional water plan, designed to improve long-term water availability from Hurley to Silver City, including the communities of Bayard and Santa Clara. The regional plan will establish connections between municipalities and domestic water associations, ensuring water access for all communities located along or near the new infrastructure lines.

The Deming City Council is scheduled to meet this evening April 15, at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Deming Municipal Building. Agenda items include a resolution to adopt an updated Infrastructure Capital Improvements Plan for the Deming Senior Center and a proclamation declaring May as Frontline Worker Appreciation Month. The Council is also expected to recognize Salvador Denogean for his dedicated service to local youth. Public input will be accepted at the beginning of the meeting, with each speaker limited to three minutes.

The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) recently held the 20th Annual Nursing Excellence Awards, an event dedicated to recognizing outstanding achievements in nursing practice. This annual celebration honors nurses for their exceptional contributions to their organizations, communities, and the state of New Mexico. This year, NMDOH proudly nominated 15 nurses from various facilities and divisions across the department, including Melissa Salas, Director of Nursing at Fort Bayard.
