Gila Regional Medical Center is continuing their Community Town Hall sessions to help provide updates on hospital initiatives, present community benefit reports, and engage in open discussion with community members. The sessions will take place this evening, September 11 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tyrone Community Center, September 16 at 6:00 p.m. at the Bayard Community Center, and September 18 at 11:30 a.m. at the Mimbres Roundup Lodge. Community members are encouraged to attend and share their thoughts and ideas.

Animas Public Schools has announced the appointment of Ms. Robbi Coker as its new Associate Superintendent. Ms. Coker brings more than 20 years of educational experience to the district, including service as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and Director of Special Education in the Alamogordo School District. She began her career as a fifth-grade student teacher at Holloman Middle School, where she quickly advanced into leadership roles, first as assistant principal and later as principal. Her extensive background in both instruction and administration reflects a deep commitment to supporting students and educators alike. Congratulations to Ms. Coker in her new administration role. 

The Silver City Jacob Bennett Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) invites attendees of the 2025 Grant County Fair in Cliff, to take part in its America 250! community project, “In the Spirit of 1776.” This free initiative offers community members of all ages a meaningful way to celebrate America’s upcoming milestone anniversaries. From September 18–20, the chapter will host a table in the Exhibit Hall, where visitors can contribute by writing patriotic notes or warm wishes to be preserved in a time capsule commemorating the nation’s 250th and 300th birthdays. The notes will be enclosed in the time capsule next year at Silver City’s Semiquincentennial Independence Day celebration. 

In Luna County news: 

 The Village of Columbus has announced the award of two new grants aimed at enhancing the community. The first grant will support improvements to the community plaza, including new landscaping, upgraded seating, and other necessary enhancements. The second grant will fund the Village’s anti-litter campaign, which will focus on organizing additional community clean-up days to help maintain the cleanliness and natural beauty of the streets and surrounding desert landscape.
