The Town of Silver City Council will convene its Regular Council Meeting on Tuesday, October 14, at 6:00 p.m. at the Grant County Administration Center. The meeting agenda will include the Manager’s Report; consideration and possible approval or disapproval of the 40-Year Water Plan Update; and consideration and possible approval or disapproval of Resolution 2025-31, a resolution authorizing the Town of Silver City to enter into the Design Funding Agreement among the State of New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission, the City of Bayard, the Village of Santa Clara, and the Town of Silver City. In addition, a proclamation recognizing “National Practitioner Week” will be presented.

The Deming Police Department has announced both a promotion and a new addition to its ranks. The Chief of Police confirmed that Detective Sergeant Patrick Rico has been promoted within the Criminal Investigation Division in recognition of his professionalism, leadership, and dedication to the Deming community. In his new role, Sergeant Rico will oversee investigative operations and provide guidance to fellow detectives. The department also welcomed Officer Jailine Olivas, who brings a strong sense of duty and commitment to her new position.

Thanks to the dedicated efforts of Silver City Pick It Up – Toss No Mas and its committed volunteers, the September World Cleanup event was a great success. A total of 25 volunteers contributed 59 hours of service, removing an impressive 785 pounds of trash and debris from key areas throughout the community, including Pinos Altos and San Vicente Creeks, Snake Hill, Spring Creek, Highways 90 and 180, the Visitor Center, and Big Ditch Park. Thank you to all the volunteers for helping keep Silver City clean, beautiful, and welcoming for all.

As a reminder, The Lordsburg-Hidalgo Chamber of Commerce will host a “Candidate Meet and Greet” this evening, October 9, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the James H. Baxter Civic Center. The event provides residents an opportunity to personally connect with local candidates running for office in Hidalgo County. Community members are invited to attend, ask questions, and engage with their neighbors who are seeking to serve in public office.
