Former New Mexico State Senator Steve Neville was recently elected to serve as Chairman of the Western New Mexico University Board of Regents. Mr. Neville brings more than two decades of legislative experience and public service to the position. Under his leadership, the board’s immediate priorities include reviewing a special audit requested by the State of New Mexico and conducting a thorough evaluation of university policies. Among the board’s most significant upcoming responsibilities is the selection of a permanent university president who demonstrates strong community engagement and the capacity to collaborate with the legislature in advancing university programs and expansions.

Congratulations to Tyke Kipp of Lordsburg who was named the 2025 Turquoise Circuit ProRodeo Steer Wrestling Champion last weekend after securing victory at the Turquoise Circuit Finals Rodeo. The Turquoise Circuit, one of 12 circuits across the United States, is part of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) circuit system and includes rodeos and athletes from New Mexico and Arizona. This marks Tyke’s third championship title in the series, further solidifying his standing as a top competitor in the sport. 

Deming Public Schools is conducting a survey to gather feedback from parents and guardians regarding their experiences with their child’s school. The district encourages participation to help gain valuable insights into students’ experiences and identify ways to better meet their needs. All responses will remain completely confidential. The survey is available through November 7, and participants can access it by visiting the Deming Public Schools Facebook page.

In recognition of Veterans Day, the New Mexico State Parks Division is reminding New Mexico resident veterans to apply for their lifetime veterans pass. The lifetime pass provides eligible veterans with free access to all state parks, including unlimited day use and camping at areas managed by the State Parks Division of the Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department. Additionally, on Veterans Day, all New Mexico residents on active duty—as well as their spouses and dependent children—receive free entry to any state park.
