Today we reflect on Thanksgiving and the meaning of the holiday. Thanksgiving traces its origins to early 17th-century New England, where English Pilgrims held a harvest feast in 1621 to celebrate a successful growing season. Though not initially an annual tradition, the event later became a symbol of cooperation and gratitude. Over time, various colonies and states marked their own days of thanksgiving until President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving holiday in 1863. Today, Thanksgiving is celebrated across the United States with family gatherings, feasts, and a focus on giving thanks for the harvest and blessings of the past year. From everyone here at Silver City Radio/SkyWest Media, we want to wish you all a happy and safe Thanksgiving day!
