Congratulations to the Silver FFA junior high members for their impressive performances this past weekend. The Opening and Closing Ceremonies team placed 3rd, which earned them a spot at the state competition. In the Creed competition, Lilyanna Ortiz secured 2nd place, while Lisa Bernstein placed 3rd qualifying both students for the state competition as well. These achievements reflect the hard work and dedication of the Silver FFA members.
The City of Deming is reminding its residents of the Gas Meter Evaluation Project that is set to begin tomorrow, November 15th. Contractor Year out Energy, along with subcontractor ENVOCORE, will conduct gas meter inspections throughout the city. The city requests that residents ensure alleyways are clear of obstructions, such as weeds, to allow for easy access to gas meters. The inspections are expected to last between three to four months. Residents with any questions or concerns are encouraged to contact the City of Deming.
The Southwest Women’s Fiber Arts Collective (SWFAC), in collaboration with the Future Forge Makerspace, is offering a free community mending program. On Saturday, November 16th, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., community members can bring in clothes to Future Forge Makerspace to be mended by SWFAC members or can learn how to mend their own items with guidance from the group. Participants who learn the mending skills will also receive a small sewing kit to take home.

The Rural Community Assistance Corporation (RCAC), a nonprofit organization, is offering free well assessments to private well owners in New Mexico. These assessments include a thorough on-site inspection of the well system to identify potential vulnerabilities, as well as the detection of sources that could lead to well contamination. The process involves water quality screening to test for harmful substances such as Arsenic, Iron, Nitrate, E. coli, and other contaminants. Additionally, a comprehensive well assessment report will be provided, outlining the findings and recommending any necessary repairs.
