Across the state of New Mexico, Silver FFA members and sisters Emma and Addison Drennan received notable recognition for their achievements in proficiency areas, star awards, and judging competitions. Their accomplishments this year included awards in Diverse Livestock Production, Swine Production Entrepreneurship, Sheep Production, and Veterinary Science. Addison was honored as the runner-up for State Star Farmer, while Emma earned a Bronze rating for the Greenhand Star.
The Mimbres Valley Health Action League is hosting a free, potentially life-saving training session open to the public on June 14 at 6 p.m. at the Roundup Lodge in San Lorenzo. The session will provide an overview of Narcan, clarifying common misconceptions, and will explore the principles of harm reduction. Participants will learn how to save lives through compassionate approaches that also help prevent the spread of disease. The initiative aims to reduce—and ultimately eliminate—the stigma surrounding substance use, supporting ongoing efforts in rehabilitation and community health.
Silver City officials are still seeking public input on the town’s updated 2025 Housing Plan, which is currently under review. Designed to address the local shortage of affordable housing, the plan will serve as a strategic framework for guiding housing-related policies over the next decade. Residents are encouraged to share their feedback by completing a brief online survey, available through the Town of Silver City’s Facebook page. A draft of the plan can also be reviewed on the Facebook page, and printed copies are available at the Community Development Office on the second floor of the City Hall Annex.

The Historic Village of Columbus will hold a Special Board of Trustees Meeting tomorrow, June 13, at the 5:00 p.m. at the Ruth Coleman Community Center. The agenda will include discussions on grants and the Infrastructure Capital Improvement Plan (ICIP) for Fiscal Years 2027–2031. Community members are invited to attend and will have the opportunity to provide public comments and input.
