Last in Our News: As of this morning, July 18th, the Ridge Fire, which is located 19 miles east of Glenwood, is still at 4,123 acres and 23 percent containment. The fire activity remains mild and monsoonal activity is expected to continue through the weekend. Crews have maintained control of the north side of Iron Creek as the fire moved south into Cooper Canyon and all observed fire activity remains low, producing favorable effects as it slowly creeps through leaf litter along the forest road. Disturbed areas are receiving wood chips produced from vegetation removal along the roads leading into the Willow Creek community, a strategy used to reduce erosion and repair the land following suppression activities. Road grading will resume tomorrow on Forest Road 159 to maintain safe conditions for firefighters and community members. Due to successful firefighting efforts, the Southwest Area Complex Incident Management Team 4 will transfer command of the Ridge Fire this evening to Incident Commander Victor Alcorta from the Wilderness Ranger District.
