Due to increased precipitation and higher humidity levels, which have significantly reduced fire danger, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has lifted fire restrictions on public lands within the Albuquerque and Las Cruces districts. This change affects counties including Hidalgo, Grant, and Luna. However, the statewide Fire Prevention Order NM910-25-01 remains in effect, continuing to prohibit the use of fireworks and other explosive devices on BLM-managed lands.

At a recent meeting of the Gila Regional Medical Center (GRMC) Board of Trustees, the Chief Executive Officer announced plans to expand services with the opening of two new clinics. The first, an outpatient behavioral health clinic, is scheduled to open on July 14 and will be located in Pod 3, the former site of GRMC’s behavioral health unit. The second, a urology clinic, has received board approval and is expected to open in the fall. This clinic will be situated across 32nd Street, alongside the existing surgical and rural health clinics, further enhancing access to specialized care for the community.
The Village of Santa Clara will hold its Regular Meeting this evening, July 10 at 6:00 p.m. at the Village’s City Hall. The agenda includes a presentation by the Southwest New Mexico Community Forestry Network, discussion on the creation of a fund to manage the Santa Clara Senior Center, consideration and possible approval of Resolution 2025-22, a public comment forum, and a closed session. The public is encouraged to attend.
The Office of Broadband Access and Expansion (OBAE) has announced the award of a $1.5 million state grant to Transworld Network L.L.C. (TWN) to expand high-speed broadband access for rural students and school staff in Silver City. In collaboration with the Silver Consolidated School District, TWN will connect 484 unserved or underserved students residing in rural areas. The grant will support the construction of towers and the implementation of fixed wireless service, as well as the installation of receivers in designated student homes. In addition, participating students and staff will receive three years of complimentary broadband service.
