The High Desert Humane Society in Silver City will be having their monthly reduced rate rabies vaccination clinic this Saturday, February 10th. They will be offering a wide variety of vaccines including one and two year rabies vaccines for cats and dogs. This will be a drive through clinic and will run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at 3050 South Cougar Way.
The Silver City Food Co-op will be donating the February funds from their “Round Up Program” to the Grant County Fort Bayard Chapter 1 of Disabled American Veterans, which is dedicated to empowering veterans to lead high-quality lives. Their mission is carried forward by extending Disabled American Veterans’ vision of hope into the community and providing a structure so veterans can express their compassion through a variety of volunteer programs. Congratulations to the La Plata Middle School Science Olympiad teams who each secured top placements during the Regional Competition that took place last weekend. All 3 teams, which included 22 students, each earned medals for crafting the longest-flying gliders, constructing innovative bridges and for harnessing the power of the sun. A special congratulations to the 7th grade team for winning 3rd place overall qualifying them for the State Competition at New Mexico Tech in Socorro. Good to luck at the State Competition.
The Rotary Club of Silver City is inviting all upcoming high school seniors who are interested in leadership to apply for the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, a transformative week-long leadership camp designed to nurture and empower young community leaders. The camp will offer a mix of leadership seminars, speakers, team sports, competitions and challenging rope courses. Boys camp will be July 14th-20th and the girls camp will be July 20th-26th.
