Last week, the Gila National Forest, Quemado Ranger District conducted a controlled burn at the Baca community slash disposal site, located approximately three miles northeast of Quemado Lake, to eliminate a year’s worth of accumulated slash. Some residual heat remains in the deeper ash piles within the slash disposal site, therefore the site will be temporarily closed for public safety, while firefighters continue to monitor it for signs of heat. The site will be reopened once all hot spots have fully cooled.
