Last week, approximately 350 Deming Public School students participated in holiday shopping sprees, made possible through the dedicated efforts of local law enforcement and community support. The event involved several agencies, including the Deming Police Department, New Mexico State Police, U.S. Border Patrol, Luna County Detention Center, Homeland Security Investigations, Deming Fire Department, Deming Police Explorers, and the Luna County Sheriff’s Office. Local officers have been fundraising for the annual event since the previous year, with strong support from the Deming and Luna County communities, who played a key role in making the initiative a success.

This month, The Commons Center for Food Security and Sustainability is proud to recognize Paul and Marcia Simon for their outstanding volunteer work. Their contributions include assisting with packing boxes, pantry distributions, front desk administration, and more. Although Paul and Marcia primarily reside in Arizona, they make regular trips to Silver City and generously dedicate their time to The Commons whenever they are in town.
