This summer, Gila Regional Medical Center transitioned to VetMed Group as their primary radiology provider as part of their ongoing efforts to improve patient care by ensuring more timely and efficient imaging results. VetMed Group, with its nearly decade-long history and a strong focus on serving American veterans through teleradiology and comprehensive medical services, has become a trusted partner of the VA. The goal of switching to VetMed Group is to help improve diagnostic accuracy and faster turnaround times for imaging studies, benefiting both the medical staff and the patients.

In celebration of the 158th birthday of Fort Bayard, the Fort Bayard Historic Preservation Society will be hosting a free talk by historian John P. Langelier this Saturday, August 17th. Dr. Langelier’s talk will focus on black Army chaplains, including Allan Allensworth, whose career included several remarkable years at Fort Bayard. The talk will take place at 6:00 p.m. at the New Deal Theater at historic Fort Bayard. 

Wanting to do some research on your family’s ancestors? The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Silver City is offering free research assistance to community members who are interested in learning more about their family’s genealogy. Assistance is offered on Tuesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 4 to 8 p.m. The Family Research Library is located at 3755 Swan Street. The Youth Prevention Coalition Impact of Hidalgo County, along with the Substance Prevention Network recently attended the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America Youth Leadership Conference in Chicago. While at the conference, students identified teen vaping as being a growing problem in Hidalgo County and helped come up with strategies to address the issue. The coalition hopes to take what they learned and incorporate it into the Hidalgo County Health Council and the Substance Prevention Network Action Plan to be used this school year.

The New Mexico Lottery has announced that a record breaking $51.084 million was raised for scholarships in the Fiscal Year 2024. This is the second consecutive record-breaking year for sales transfers to the New Mexico Lottery Legislative Scholarship Fund. Since its inception, the Lottery has helped generate nearly 150,000 scholarships for New Mexico students and their families. All profits from the sale of New Mexico Lottery games fund an in-state college tuition assistance program. Since 1996, the New Mexico Lottery has raised more than $1 billion for education and nearly 150,000 students have attended college on Legislative Lottery Scholarships.
