In celebration of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, The Recovery Management Center of Silver City is hosting a family-friendly event on April 5th at Gough Park. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the community is invited to join in on a day filled with fun games, lively music, great prizes, and informative booths. This free event promises to offer something for everyone, making it the perfect opportunity to come together and learn while supporting an important cause.
The Luna County Juvenile Justice Continuum of Services (JJCS) recently organized its inaugural trip to the Holocaust Museum, offering youth a profound opportunity to engage with important lessons on ethics and history. This trip represents the beginning of a new direction in the program’s approach, focused on providing participants with experiences that extend beyond the boundaries of Deming, thereby expanding their global perspectives. Through strategic collaboration with sister programs, JJCS is dedicated to equipping young individuals with the necessary resources and support to help prevent them from becoming involved in the justice system.
The Green and White Animas Mock Trial Teams recently competed at the state competition in Albuquerque, where they showcased impressive skills and dedication. Piper Massey was awarded one of the eight Outstanding Attorney Gavels, while Makayla Harrington received one of the three Mock Trial Scholarship awards. Also, the Green Team finished in 7th place overall. This recognition highlights the team’s hard work and the individual accomplishments of its members in this highly competitive event.

As a reminder, The Silver City Woman’s Club has announced the availability of three $1,000 Western New Mexico University (WNMU) scholarships for the 2025-2026 academic year. These scholarships are open to both male and female applicants pursuing any type of degree. Interested individuals can obtain application forms from the Silver City Woman’s Club on Mondays between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The deadline for submitting completed applications is April 28th.
