Gila National Forest Officials continue to see an increase in vandalism at developed sites, including trailheads and campgrounds, which has forced staff to divert time and resources away from improving recreation access and public safety. Some incidents pose health and safety risks, such as contamination of facilities, fire hazards from fully cut trees, and trash that attracts wildlife, while others—like graffiti, property damage, and theft—diminish visitor experience and damage community-supported amenities. Forest officials urge the public to respect facilities and report vandalism to the Silver City Dispatch Center at 575-538-5371.

Residents may request a dumpster through the County website, with requests prioritized based on nuisance violations, visibility, and areas with concentrated waste.
