The Aldo Leopold Charter School Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) mural crew recently completed the installation of the latest Youth Mural Program project at San Lorenzo Elementary. Under the guidance of artist Kathryn Allen, San Lorenzo students contributed original depictions of local flora and fauna, which were also featured in a previous mural at CP Anderson Vista. The ceramic pieces were glazed collaboratively by students from Cobre High School and members of the Aldo YCC mural crew. This mural serves as a continuation of the 2024 Gila Wilderness Celebration, honoring the region’s rich natural heritage.
The National Center for Frontier Communities has announced the re-opening of the Bayard Community Garden at its original location along Central Avenue, adjacent to the Bayard Fire Station. Now serving as the Bayard Community Garden and Greenhouse Training Center, the revitalized space will provide residents of all ages with opportunities to grow their own food and develop essential skills in sustainable agriculture. In addition to promoting food security and environmental stewardship, the garden is envisioned as a vibrant community gathering place that will help foster community connection
The Silver City Watershed Keepers invites the community to participate in the City Nature Challenge Silver City 2025, a four-day event taking place from April 25–28. Part of a global community science initiative, the challenge encourages participants to document local biodiversity in urban and natural areas. Community members are invited to observe, photograph, and identify as many plant and animal species as possible throughout Silver City and the greater Grant County area.
