As part of the work on the Pedestrian Safety Improvement Project, the City of Deming has announced that road construction has moved from Cedar Street and has now begun on J Street and Country Club Road. The work is anticipated to continue for the next 6 to 8 weeks and lane closures will only occur during normal business hours. Property and business access for residents will always remain open and motorists are urged to follow the direction of traffic control for their safety and the safety of the construction crew.

In observance of National Bullying Prevention Month, Silver Consolidated Schools is offering “Parent Coaching” a resource that connects parents with a parenting coach. Parent Coaching offers weekly calls, 24/7 texting, guided, step-by step resources and tools and tips to help parents deal with these types of difficult situations. During the recent Grant County Commissioners Regular Meeting, the Grant County Commissioner members approved the four capital appropriation projects funded by the NM DFA local government division. The four projects address the plan, design, construct, furnish and equip and will include a crisis intervention facility in Grant County, improvements to the county fairgrounds, security systems at the Grant County Sheriff’s Office and a community center in the Gila. Grant County is set to start beginning these projects in the upcoming year.
The Gila Native Plant Society has begun work on their “Master Plan” to help improve and expand the Silva Creek Botanical Garden. A group of students from Aldo YCC have been working on the Habitat Thicket by adding more plants to the area, including milkweeds along the fence on Virginia Street. They have also been working on improving the Children’s Butterfly Garden, which was designed to be a teaching garden, by improving the access within the garden to provide a small gathering space outside the garden that will help meet the goal of the original design. Congratulations to Cheyenne Jameson of Cliff High School and Nyssa Torres of Silver High School who both took individual honors at the Deming Invitational Cross Country Meet this past weekend. Ms. Torres took top individual honors by coming in 1st place with a winning time of 21:51 and Ms. Jameson won second place with a time of 22:12. Both ladies were able to defeat competitors from Deming, Cobre and Morenci High School. Great job to both ladies!
