Starting October 1st many New Mexicans relying on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will experience significant increases in their monthly food benefits, extended certification periods, and expanded eligibility. Notably, the renewal period for benefits will be extended from 12 months to up to 36 months for SNAP customers aged 60 and older, as well as for individuals with disabilities who do not have earned income. By enhancing SNAP access and increasing benefits, the New Mexico Human Services Department is ensuring that more families, seniors, and individuals with disabilities receive the support necessary to thrive.
