At the time of compiling this report, the New Mexico Department of Health, announced a total of 29,157 New Mexico COVID-19 confirmed positive cases with 16,565 tested as recovered. In addition, COVID-19 cases recorded locally are as follows: Grant County has remained at 124 total cases with 47 recovered; Luna County remains at 422 total cases with 168 recovered; Hidalgo County remains at 99 total cases with 72 recovered; and Catron County remains at 9 total cases with 4 recovered.

The Silver City Police Department in conjunction with the Silver Consolidated School District is reminding the community about school and motorist safety. According to a release, adults are requested to only drop off children in designated areas set forth by the school the child is attending. Silver High School is not currently in session, however surrounding schools in the district are currently open and in session. Drivers are reminded that flashing school zone speed limit signs are placed throughout the school district along with other existing traffic signals and speed limit signs. Officers will be out in force to conduct traffic enforcement to ensure everyone’s safety. In addition, law enforcement will be conducting more frequent patrols within the school district for increased visibility and safety.

During the current COVID-19 health orders, Girl Scouts are still active and offering opportunities for girls aged kindergarten through 12th grade. Girl Scouts is offering an online “Robot Building Recruitment Party” on Tuesdays and Thursdays during October and November. Participants can join online at www.gsdsw.org, click on “Robot Building Party” and “RSVP today” to receive a Zoom link. During COVID-19, girls are invited to join virtual troop meetings for free with the opportunity to join a troop in person at a later date. Since 1912, Girl Scouting has been the preeminent girl-led organization building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
