The New Mexico Department of Health has offered guidance on the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine booster distribution, following a series of steps taken by the federal FDA and CDC last week. The CDC recommends that people aged 65 years and older, residents aged 18 years and older in long-term care settings, and people aged 50 to 64 years with underlying medical conditions should receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 Vaccine at least 6 months after completing their first 2 Pfizer-BioNTech primary series shots. Other groups recommended to receive the Pfizer booster are people aged 18 to 49 years with underlying medical conditions and/or at an increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting, some of which include: first responders; front line essential workers and health care workers; education staff; U.S. Postal Service workers; and employees in Corrections; public transit; manufacturing; food and agricultural; and grocery stores.
