The Gila Cliff Dwellings is still in need of volunteers to work with the Interpretive Division this winter. They are seeking individuals that are interested in presenting interpretive dialogue, providing informal interpretation related to surrounding cultural and natural resources and providing regional orientation and information to visitors. The Commons in Silver City will be having a “Neighborhood Dinner” on Friday, September 29th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The dinner is free and open to all community members.
The Gila National Forest will be hosting a volunteer event on Saturday, September 30th at the Catwalk Recreation Site in celebration of the 30th annual National Public Lands Day. This event will build on work by trail crews from the Gila National Forest and Conservation Corps New Mexico, who have been working restoring trail access along Whitewater Creek. Volunteers will be joining the Glenwood Ranger District staff to help complete multiple service projects across the Whitewater Picnic Area and Catwalk National Recreation Trail. Silver City Mayor, Ken Ladner, is inviting the public to join him at the next “Monday Meeting with the Mayor” on Monday, October 2nd from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The meeting will give the public a chance to share their ideas, input and inspirations on how to make the Town of Silver City more successful. The meeting will take place at The Javalina Coffee House and all are invited to stop by anytime between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
The New Mexico Public Regulation Commission just approved a settlement between PNM that will set rate credits for customers. The settlement ends a legal battle over prices PNM charged people after it decommissioned a coal plant. Under the agreement, PNM will disperse a total of $115 million in rate credits to customers over the course of one year and during that time, the average residential customer will see $9.28 or 11% credit on their bill each month. The credits are set to be distributed to customers accounts in the upcoming months.

The Marshall Memorial Library is offering free American Sign Language (ASL) classes to those interested in learning the intermediate and beginning states of sign language. Instructor Robert Clark, who has been teaching ASL classes since 2017, and Chole Young, who has been teaching for 30 years, is there to help others who are wanting and willing to learn sign language. The class takes place every Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
