As a reminder, Grant County is still working on completing construction on Little Walnut Road. Construction has begun near the intersection of Trail Road and ending near the intersection of Tanglewood Circle. Road improvements include drainage/flood control, widening and a multi-use pass. Cobre High School will be hosting a 2023-24 “Scholarship Workshop” on Wednesday, September 27th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Cobre High School Library. The workshop is open to all Juniors, Seniors and parents who have questions regarding the types of scholarships available to students and to those who need help filling out applications for colleges, scholarships and testing.
The non-profit organization Single Socks, which is located in Silver City, will be accepting applications for Fall grants starting Monday, October 9th. Single Socks will be considering applications from non-profit organizations or local governments agencies and applying organizations must obtain at least 20% of their combined monetary and food donations from sources other than Single Socks. Congratulations to senior volunteers, George Holguin, Sonya Herbal, Dianna Manly, Linda Brown and Angelica Portillo who were recently recognized by the AmeriCorps Retired Senior Volunteers Program (RSVP) in Deming. The Americorps RSVP held an appreciation dinner for all five volunteers and issued them certificates of appreciation for their commitment and dedication in helping Luna county residents live healthier, safer, smarter and more resilient lives.
New Mexico Tech Playas, (NMT), which focuses on training, testing, evaluation and experimentation, is working on building a training and research center in Hidalgo County. As part of Hidalgo County, New Mexico Tech Playas wants to create a community space, to help provide the county with some of the assets NMT has to offer. The goal is to create a center of excellence to help the county grow and to serve national and homeland security interests.
The New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department’s Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee is seeking community input to help prioritize juvenile issues and funding for the next three years in communities all over New Mexico. The survey’s responses will be used to help plan youth program funding and juvenile justice system improvements and is open to youth, parents, social workers, law enforcement officers, elected officials and more.
