At the time of compiling this report, the New Mexico Department of Health, announced a total of 27,683 New Mexico COVID-19 confirmed positive cases with 15,518 tested as recovered. In addition, COVID-19 cases recorded locally are as follows: Grant County has remained to 108 total cases with 43 recovered; Luna County increased to 408 total cases and remaining at 151 recovered; Hidalgo County remains at 99 total cases with 67 recovered; and Catron County remains at 9 total cases with 3 recovered.
Governor Michell Lujan Grisham announced yesterday that $9.7 million in essential infrastructure projects for rural community across the state have been approved. Eligible applicants included all counties and incorporated municipalities with the exception of large cities, such as Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Las Cruces, Farmington, and Rio Rancho. The larger populated regions receive funding directly from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. According to a release, the essential infrastructure projects include: “water and sewer system improvements, wastewater treatment upgrades, streets and drainage fixes, accommodations for individuals with disabilities at public facilities, senior center construction and more.” Locally, the City of Bayard received $750,000 for sewer system improvements, and the Town of Silver City received $652,595 for water system improvements in Chihuahua Hill. In addition, Luna County received $749,077 for renovations and expansions at the county health complex.
National Voter Registration Day was observed today, held the fourth Tuesday in September since its inception in 2012. According to the National Day Calendar, more than 300,000 Americans registered to vote in the inaugural day the observance with that number jumping to 800,000 in 2018. The day helps to ensure eligible voters register in their districts each year. The National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) established the first National Voter Registration Day on September 25th 2012.
