The Silver City Town Council recently approved resolution 2023-19 which authorizes the execution and delivery of a Colonias Infrastructure Project fund and grant agreement with the New Mexico Finance Authority. This project will move the current sewer line that is currently inaccessible to an area that the city will have the right away to and will provide easier access in case of any problems.
The Gila Cliff Dwellings is seeking volunteers to work with the Interpretive Division this winter. They are seeking individuals that are interested in presenting interpretive dialogue, providing informal interpretation related to surrounding cultural and natural resources and providing regional orientation and information to visitors. Representative Gabe Vasquez is inviting Veterans and their families, caregivers and advocates to join him and the VA at the Deming PACT Act Town Hall. The Town Hall will focus on presenting the expansion of Veteran benefits under the PACT ACT and give Veterans the opportunity to ask questions they may have. The Town Hall will take place on Tuesday, September 5th at 3:30 p.m. at the Mimbres Valley Learning Center in Deming.
The City of Bayard is working on enacting an ordinance that would require the registration and payment of an annual fee where a vacant residential or commercial structure is certified. The purpose of the ordinance is to help protect the health and safety of the City of Bayard by ensuring appropriate maintenance of vacant residential and commercial structures. The ordinance will also help prevent the development of insanitary conditions, unsafe deterioration of the structure, and unauthorized entry and help promote the City’s public welfare by protecting property values and neighborhood safety.
Congratulations to Cliff High School graduates, Samantha Jones and Paige Trevizo who were recently awarded $500 scholarships from the Silver City Chapter Number 3, Order of the Eastern Star. A renewal scholarship was granted to Ms. Jones, who is currently a student at Western New Mexico University pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology. The second awardee, Paige, was awarded a new scholarship and is attending New Mexico State University and studying Fish and Wildlife Management and Criminal Justice.
The Village of Santa Clara is alerting their residents that they will no longer be putting yellow tags on delinquent water accounts. Accounts that are not paid in full or have not made prior arrangements by the last day of the month will be disconnected on the first Tuesday of the following month and assessed a $50 reconnect fee.
