The New Mexico Early Childhood Education & Care Department is reminding eligible parents to take a survey and learn about available family service programs. Eligibility includes a family income of 200 percent of Federal Poverty Level that adds up to $52,499 for a family of four. The online application helps families who are in need to apply for services and/or be referred to various state/federal early childhood programs include: Child Care Assistance; Pre-Kindergarten; Home Visiting; and Family Infant Toddler. Parents can receive more information by calling 1-800-691-9067.

The New Mexico Attorney General has issued an advisory warning to state residents about serial lawsuit scams that are targeting individuals with disabilities. According to a release, individuals who bring serial lawsuits claim to have potential clients’ best interests at heart, but they in fact undermine vital protections by bringing illegitimate claims for personal profit. Safety guidelines include:

  • Search for the company or individual’s name to see if they have been involved in scam-like activity
  • Don’t give up any personal information before researching the company of individual
  • Contact local disability rights organizations, as well as the Office of the Attorney General if you believe that you are being scammed or if your rights have been violated.

The September 30th deadline for completion of the 2020 Census is approaching and nearly one half of New Mexico residents have not been counted. According to a release, as of last week, 56.5% of New Mexico households have been counted, compared to 65.5% nationwide. Members of the Grant County “Complete Count” Committee are urging all residents who have not completed the census can easily do so online at grant county census dot com or by calling toll free 844-330-2020. Individuals can also receive confidential one-on-one assistance with the census questionnaire by texting CENSUS HELP to 313131.
