In recognition of October being Domestic Violence Awareness Month, The non-profit organization, El Refugio Inc. is reminding all Grant County residents that they provide services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week along with emergency shelter to victims of domestic violence. Shelter is provided to men, women and children who are experiencing domestic violence and seeking safety. El Refugio’s mission is to help empower all persons affected by domestic and sexual violence by providing advocacy, education and services in a safe and supportive environment. The New Mexico Office of the Attorney General will be giving a presentation on “Cyber Safety” Thursday, October 5th. The presentation is geared towards parents, grandparents and other caregivers of children and teens that are interested in learning how to keep kids safe online and avoid exploitation. The session will take place at 4:00 p.m. and community members can join via Zoom or can stop by the Silver City Public Library to view the presentation in their screening room. As a reminder, Grant County is still completing construction on Truck Bypass Road. The construction, which started on September 18th, will take place for approximately 100 working days. Construction includes reconstructing of an existing culvert and roadway and drainage improvements. The road will be closed to thru traffic and reduced to residential traffic only and residents must either use Highway 90 or Highway 180 for ingress and egress.

The New Mexico Cattle Grower’s Association Allied Industry Committee (NMCGA) will be hosting college interns at the upcoming 2023 Joint Stockmen’s Convention. NMCGA is working with Allied Industry Partners on this program to offer businesses the opportunity to bring new ideas and energy into the workplace, discover talent and potentially build a pipeline for future full-time employees. The goal of the internship is to help give college students an experience in the career field they want to pursue, as well as provide face to face time with peers and industry leaders.
