The New Mexico Department of Health has announced from Saturday, October 9th through Monday, October 11th there have been 2,433 addition COVID-19 cases statewide. Locally, the mist recent reported cases are as follows: Grant County with 53 new cases; Hidalgo County with 3 new cases; Luna County with 30 new cases; and Catron County with 33 new cases.

 The Pinos Altos Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department is inviting first responders and members of the public to a Helicopter Landing Training and Open House at the LS Mesa Station, this Sunday, October 17th. The training provided by Air Methods, begins at 10:00 A.M. with a classroom session first and the actual landing zone preparation and execution of landing the helicopter afterward. The training will be followed by an Open House of the LS Mesa station with complimentary lunch. The LS Mesa Station is located at 769 Bear Mountain Road. Travel on Bear Mountain Road for 7.7 miles after leaving the pavement of Cottage San Road. The station is on the left and visible from the road. According to a news release, everyone, including families, are invited to learn about the department, meet current members, and inquire about possibly joining to serve the community.

The New Mexico Department of Agriculture is hosting a pesticide disposal event in Deming on Tuesday, October 19th at the Southwest New Mexico Fairgrounds from 8:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Held several times throughout the state, the pesticide disposal events provide the agricultural industry, pest control industry and the general public the opportunity to properly dispose of unwanted pesticides.
