The Reserve Ranger District of the Gila National Forest has announced that winter operations have begun at Dipping Vat Campground located approximately 52 miles southeast of Reserve on the west side of Snow Lake accessed via National Forest System Road 141. The water system has been shut off and drained to prevent freezing and pipe breakage over the winter months. The Gila National Forest reminds visitors to check the weather forecast or call the District office before heading out.
The Cobre School District is facilitating a Thanksgiving Food Drive with a goal to purchase 300 turkeys for those locally in need. In addition, non-perishable food items can be dropped off at Cobre Schools and the District Administration office through November 17th.
Today is general election day and the polls will be open until 7:00 P.M. this evening. Voting locations in Grant County include: Bayard Community Center; Grant County Administration Center at 1400 Highway 180 East in Silver City; Grant County Fairgrounds Exhibit Building in Cliff; San Lorenzo Elementary School; and the Silver City Woman’s Club located at 411 Silver Heights Boulevard. For Luna county residents, voting locations include: the Mimbres Valley Learning Center; Holy Family Church at 615 South Copper Street; and in Columbus at the Columbus Village Library.
