The New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority Board has recently approved funding for a 30-unit permanent support housing development in Lordsburg. According to a news release, $7.9 million is earmarked for construction of the Cornerstone Apartments, a “30-unit permanent supportive housing project serving special needs populations. Twenty-five units will be income restricted to households earning 30% or less of area median income (AMI) and five units will be income-restricted to households earning 50% or less of AMI.” In addition, the project will be built on approximately 1.5 acres and consist of a single 3-story building. The plan includes that residents will be connected to a wide range of services and resources in Hidalgo, Grant, and Luna counties.
The Silver Chorale, consisting of 33 members, will be performing a variety of sacred, Christmas, and jazzy musical selections in two free concerts this week. The group, directed by Bryce Wooten, will be playing this Friday, December 2nd, 7:00 P.M. at Terrazas Funeral Chapel in Santa Clara and on Sunday, December 4th, 3:00 P.M. at Calvary Chapel in Silver City. In addition, five members were chosen to be a quintet that will also perform several special numbers. The concert is free to the public, although being a non-profit organization, they graciously accept donations.
Literacy Link Leamos in Silver City wants to remind the community that they offer free tutoring for adults at the Silver City Public Library. For one hour a week, adults can learn English, study for citizenship and/or prepare for the GED with a personalized tutor that works at whatever pace the participant chooses.
