Tomorrow is Regular Local Election Day from 7:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M statewide. Voters who have not taken advantage of early voting will be able to cast their ballot for various candidates for positions including municipal and town offices, school board members, municipal judges and water and conservations boards, watershed districts and other issues depending on their county and residence location. This election is held every November of odd-numbered years. For more information on voting locations contact your county clerk office.
The Gila Regional Medical Center has announced the appointment of Kathleen Cahill as the new CEO of GRMC. Cahill is a graduate of Silver High School and has served with University of New Mexico Health System. Ms. Cahill is slated to take over the CEO position on November 29th.
Through a competitive grant process, the state’s Outdoor Recreation Division of the Economic Development Department has announced the awardees of the Outdoor Recreation Trails+ grant. According to a news release the Outdoor Recreation Division administers this infrastructure program to improve access to outdoor recreation while bolstering the state’s outdoor recreation economy. This year, 25 organizations were awarded a total of $506,736.17, with the projects bringing in an additional $1.628 million in matching funds. Sixty-four percent of this year’s awarded projects are located in rural counties. Locally, awardees include: $7,500 to the Bayard Public Library; $25,000 to the Continental Divide Trail Coalition; $15,655 to the Gila Chapter of the Back Country Horsemen of New Mexico; $21,754 to Silver City Mainstreet; and $11,350 to Southwest New Mexico ACT in Silver City.
