The Town of Silver City is planning to construct a road connecting U.S. 180 to the 32nd Street Bypass adjacent to the Ben Altamirano Sports Complex, that will be aimed at facilitating further development in the area. The New Mexico Department of Transportation has allocated $332,880 for a study focused on extending Sheriff’s Posse Road northward toward the bypass. This study will assess the road’s alignment, determine the required right-of-way, and develop a multimodal transportation plan that includes provisions for sidewalks, ADA compliance, and bike lanes. These funds are part of a broader initiative, with a total of $8.3 million designated for eight municipal projects in District 1. Any construction stemming from the findings of the study will commence several years in the future.
