The South Fork Negrito Creek bridge replacement project on the Gila National Forest’s Reserve Ranger District is nearing completion. Delivery of the major prefabricated steel bridge components is scheduled for September 17–22, which may impact travel along Forest Road 141 between Reserve and the project site, located 27 miles southeast of town. Final construction activities will include installing guardrails, paving asphalt approaches, and conducting site rehabilitation with reseeding. The temporary public safety closure prohibits public entry on the closed section of Forest Road 141 for any purpose.The temporary road and area closure is expected to be lifted in mid-October, pending earlier completion of the project.
The Village of Columbus has officially opened its new facultative wastewater pond, marking a significant advancement in protecting public health and supporting the community’s future growth. This state-of-the-art treatment facility utilizes natural processes to safely break down and clean wastewater. By combining oxygen-rich and oxygen-poor zones, the pond fosters beneficial bacteria and algae that work together to treat the water effectively before it is released back into the environment.

Silver City Street Outreach will host this year’s Emergency Warming Center at its College Avenue location in anticipation of another cold winter. Established to prevent deaths from hypothermia, the Warming Center will provide the unhoused community and others in need with hot meals, warm drinks, and a safe, welcoming environment. The center will be open on nights when temperatures fall below forty degrees, offering overnight shelter and nourishment, while continuing to serve as a Community Peer Advocacy Drop-in Center during the day.
