Silver City’s Pick It Up-Toss No Mas would like to thank all the volunteers who dedicated their time during the September “World Cleanup Day” event. Thanks to the efforts of 40 committed individuals, a remarkable total of 97 hours was devoted to cleaning the community, resulting in the collection of 680 pounds of litter and debris from neighborhoods, parks, roads, and waterways. The volunteers’ hard work not only exemplifies the spirit of community involvement but also the importance of maintaining a clean environment, making Silver City a safer, cleaner, and more beautiful place for everyone to enjoy.

State officials will be recognizing Silver City Consolidated Schools, Cobre Consolidated School District, and Frontier Food Hub at an awards ceremony in Albuquerque later this month for their outstanding efforts in connecting students to locally grown food through the NM Grown program. These Grant County awardees received accolades in the Golden Chile Awards Program for their commitment to buying and serving locally sourced food, providing tasting opportunities, supporting student-led gardens, and educating students about the importance of healthy nutrition. Their initiatives not only help enhance students’ culinary experiences but also foster a deeper appreciation for local agriculture and healthy eating.
