During the Silver City Town Council Meeting, the council approved two new resolutions. The first, Resolution 2024-21, pertains to the transportation fund and requires a 5 percent match of $17,520. This funding will be utilized to conduct a feasibility study on extending Sheriff Posse Road to the bypass road, exploring various options for that development. The council also approved Resolution 2024-22, which will accept colonias funding to plan and design the widening of Swan Street, as well as the addition of bike lanes and sidewalks.

Congratulations to Silver High School student, Addison Drennan, who has been named a Semifinalist for the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation. She is one of 1,336 students selected from over 105,000 applicants. Addison is now eligible to submit a Semifinalist application, with hopes of advancing as one of 250 Regional Finalists. Ultimately, 150 Finalists will be awarded the title of Coca-Cola Scholars and receive a $20,000 college scholarship. Good luck to Addison on advancing to the Regional Finals.

Earlier this month, the Southwest Coalition for Life (SWCL) held a fundraiser dinner in Rodeo, New Mexico to support its mission as a life-affirming organization dedicated to assisting women facing crisis pregnancies. SWCL offers a range of services, including prenatal and postnatal care, among others. The event successfully raised over $14,000, which will enable the organization to provide essential tools and support for women in challenging circumstances during pregnancy. The evening highlighted the compassion and commitment of the community in Hidalgo County.
