In support of Mental Health Month, the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is reminding New Mexicans of the services they provide. 988 offers support to those dealing with family or relationship issues, anxiety about money, alcohol or drug use, self-harm, grief and more. If you feel overwhelmed by life or emotions and do not know where to turn, 988 will provide private on-on-one support no matter the circumstances. Cobre Consolidated School District employees Antoinette Madrid and Eleanor Pedraza recently received awards for their dedication to the school district and students. Ms. Antoinette was selected as the two time “Certified Staff Member of the Year” for going above and beyond and for being the “heart” of the school. Mrs. Eleanor, who has been teaching students for 43 years, was recognized for her dedication and devotion to students. Congratulations to both ladies.

The Western New Mexico University Dual Enrollment Program has been steadily increasing in enrollment in recent years, with a total 509 students enrolled this spring. The program allows New Mexico’s secondary students to take college coursework while completing high school to help students get a head start on their futures. It also helps prepare students to enter the workforce by offering hands-on learning experiences. This month, 75 students enrolled in the program earned a WNMU certificate, degree or both in addition to graduating from high school. 

Aldo Leopold Charter School will be hosting a “Internship Showcase” on Wednesday, May 8th from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Ritch Hall on the Western New Mexico University campus. The internship Showcase will give students the opportunity to learn about Aldo and the educational programs they provide that help prepare students for future careers. Through the internship program students have learned skills such as water harvesting, eco-monitoring, art, welding, baking and more. The showcase is free and open to the public. 

The Santa Clara Action Committee has announced the return of the “Beautiful Yard of the Month” contest. Starting this month the committee will be cruising the Village of Santa Clara to look for the yard with the best landscaping from rock gardens to container gardens and everything in between. The contest will start on May 12th and will run until August. The winners will receive a gift card, will be featured in the upcoming Santa Clara newsletter and will be featured on the Action Committee’s Facebook page.
