The Gila National Forest, Silver City Ranger District, requests that the public refrain from using the Little Walnut Picnic Area and the nearby non-motorized trails while PNM conducts tree, limb, and brush removal along the powerline corridor adjacent to and overhead within the recreation site. The powerline runs above the trailhead at the northern end of the picnic area, directly over the Little Walnut East Picnic Area, and over the access road leading to the picnic sites. This work, which began a few weeks ago, will continue on weekdays for the next several weeks.
NM Arts, in partnership with Western New Mexico University’s Cultural Affairs, will sponsor a “Creative Expression 101” workshop for military personnel and their families every Monday in April. The workshop offers participants the opportunity to engage in coloring, drawing, and writing while discovering a stress-free approach to self-expression and learning. Luna County 4-H members collaborated with the Luna County Farm and Livestock Bureau and the Border Belles for their annual Food Link initiative, purchasing groceries for the Healing House, the county’s shelter for victims of domestic violence. This annual shopping event underscores the agricultural community’s dedication to supporting local youth and service programs. This project not only provides assistance to those in need but also teaches 4-H members the importance of community engagement and service.
The City of Deming has announced that, effective April 1st, the intersection of Ash Street and Gold Street will be closed for construction as part of the Gold Street Project. While Gold Street will remain open to traffic in both directions, no through traffic will be permitted on Ash Street. The project is expected to last approximately two weeks.
