Silver Consolidated Schools and Aldo Leopold Charter School have reached an agreement for Aldo Leopold to purchase the Jose Barrios Elementary School campus for $1,675,000. The project, supported by the New Mexico Finance Authority and other partners, will allow Aldo Leopold to open at the new site in Fall 2026 after necessary renovations and transition planning. Both organizations are dedicated and committed to serving students and honoring the history and legacy of the Jose Barrios community while providing a stable, long-term facility to support educational innovation and future growth.
During a recent Grant County Commission meeting, officials reappointed three members to the Lodgers Tax Advisory Board while continuing efforts to fill two remaining vacancies. Commissioners reviewed the county’s annual audit and approved the naming of the access road to the Forgotten Veterans Memorial as “Armando ‘Mundy’ Amador Lane,” while also authorizing the next phase of improvements to Arenas Valley Road. Additional actions included the acceptance of grant funding for enhanced 911 services and reimbursements to volunteer fire departments and addressed constituent concerns related to communication with Gila Regional Medical Center and traffic safety near San Lorenzo Elementary School.
