The Town of Silver City Council will meet Tuesday, June 23 at 6 p.m. at the Grant County Administration Center for its regular council meeting. Among the items on the agenda are consideration of Resolution No. 2026-19 to approve the 2026 Town of Silver City Comprehensive Plan, Resolution No. 2026-20 to adopt the town’s 2028–2032 Infrastructure Capital Improvement Plan (ICIP), and Resolution No. 2026-21 to adopt the 2028–2032 Infrastructure Capital Improvement Plan for the Silver City Senior Center. These resolutions will help guide future planning, infrastructure priorities, and capital improvement projects within the community. 

Silver Consolidated Schools has reported continued progress on improvements at Harrison Schmitt Elementary funded through voter-approved bond funds. New flooring is being installed in hallways and classrooms where asbestos abatement is not required, while abatement work continues in other areas before flooring replacement can begin. Crews have also removed popcorn ceilings, painted portions of the school, including the cafeteria, and begun preparations for new playground equipment after removing the old structures. 

Luna County is inviting parents and guardians to participate in the second cycle of the “Talk. They Hear You.” Parent Night Parent Engagement Sessions, taking place June 23–24 at 5 p.m. in the Luna County Courthouse Basement. The two-night series is designed to help families strengthen communication and support healthy decision-making. Tuesday’s session, “Setting Clear Expectations,” will focus on helping children make healthy, safe choices, while Wednesday’s session, “Keeping the Conversation Going,” will provide tips for ongoing discussions that make a difference.

The National Weather Service has issued Heat Advisories for Luna, Grant and Hidalgo counties, with dangerously hot conditions expected through Wednesday evening. Temperatures could reach up to 108 degrees in some areas, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for outdoor workers, older adults and young children. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day, and seek shade or air conditioning when possible.
