The Silver City Public Works Director recently announced that the current phase of the ongoing multi-year improvement project on Little Walnut Road has been extended an additional 500 feet to the north. This phase of the project, which began just north of Chavez Lane and will extend to just south of Jack Frost Drive, includes nearly three-quarters of a mile of roadway improvements. Planned enhancements consist of paving, new curb and gutter installation, ADA-compliant sidewalks on the west side of the street, bike lanes, and updated signage. The revised completion date for this phase is now set for June 30.

Lordsburg Elks Lodge 1813 has awarded $1,000 scholarships to two outstanding students from Hidalgo County Schools. Madisyn Rainer of Animas received the scholarship and plans to pursue a degree in Accounting at New Mexico State University. She has demonstrated a strong commitment to her community through active involvement in FFA, athletics, and church activities. Austin Cole of Lordsburg was also awarded a scholarship and intends to study Art at Doña Ana Community College. He has been actively engaged in 4-H, drama, and is recognized for his deep appreciation for and service to his community. Congratulations to both students. 

The Southwest Area Incident Management Team 4 is scheduled to hold a community meeting regarding the Trout Fire this evening, June 16, at 6:00 p.m. at the Grant County Business and Conference Center. Team representatives will provide updates on current fire activity, response efforts, and safety information. Community members are encouraged to attend.

The MVD emphasizes that it will never contact individuals via text message or email regarding unpaid violations. These messages are part of a scam, and recipients are strongly advised not to click on any links or copy and paste them into a web browser. Instead, such messages should be deleted immediately without sharing any personal information. Scammers often use scare tactics or impersonate enforcement, ultimately aiming to steal personal and financial information.
