Cobre Consolidated Schools has announced that “The Community Food Pantry” will take place on January tomorrow, 21st, at Hurley Elementary. The distribution will begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue until supplies run out. This event is open to all individuals in the community, and everyone is welcome to participate.
Western New Mexico University has received reaccreditation for the next ten years from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) following a thorough peer review, evaluation, and site visit. HLC accreditation involves an in-depth examination of every aspect of the university, including fiscal stability, policies, academic program quality, faculty and staff credentials, student support services, data-driven decision-making, and effective assessment practices. The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) District One, in collaboration with Mountain States Constructors, Inc., is undertaking a project to widen U.S. 180 from a two-lane to a four-lane road between Bayard and Hurley. As part of this work, crews have scheduled a rock blast for tomorrow, January 21st at 12 p.m. During this time, U.S. 180 will be closed from Lusk Street to the Bayard Cemetery at milepost 125.8. The closure is expected to last approximately 30 minutes, with a maximum duration of one hour.

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), has announced nearly $52 million in awards to 54 HRSA-funded health centers to enhance access to high-quality primary care for individuals transitioning from incarceration to community reintegration. Hidalgo Medical Services (HMS) is one of two health centers in New Mexico to receive $1 million in funding. Additionally, HMS was awarded $500,000 for its Behavioral Health Service Expansion (BHSE), which will support efforts to broaden access to behavioral health services, including the initiation and expansion of behavioral health and substance use disorder (SUD) services.
