The Silver City Public Library Foundation recently approved funding for renovations to the library building, including new flooring and replacement doors intended to improve sound reduction. The board approved spending up to $20,000 for flooring, carpet in the staff workroom, along with replacement of carpet squares in the main library area, and the replacement of wooden doors in multiple rooms. In addition, the library received a $3,000 invite-only grant from John Henry Eldred Jr. Foundation to help support science, technology, engineering and mathematics programming.

Hidalgo Medical Services has announced its participation in a national, consensus-based process to review and endorse quality measures for use by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, known as CMS. The effort seeks to establish agreement on the appropriateness of proposed measures for specific CMS programs and target populations. Through its involvement, HMS is representing community health care priorities at the national level while helping ensure that adopted measures support high-quality care for patients and the communities it serves.

The Deming City Council will convene its regular meeting on Tuesday, January 20, at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall. During the meeting, councilors are scheduled to consider several resolutions, including the adoption of the Open Meetings Act, procurement practices, and public works contract procedures in accordance with state law. The council will also review matters related to required Community Development Block Grant certifications and commitments, as well as a request for records destruction. Public comment will be accepted, with each speaker allotted up to three minutes.

The Village of Columbus is offering assistance to residents affected by extreme winter temperatures, which can cause water pipes to freeze and potentially burst.
