During the Fort Bayard Revitalization Plan Community Workshop, three conceptual development alternatives for the revitalization of Fort Bayard were presented: Fort Bayard Village, Fort Bayard Trailhead, and Fort Bayard Resort. Each concept represents a distinct development approach with the final plan expected to incorporate elements from all three options. Proposed components common to the concepts include a boutique hotel, residential housing, retail spaces, a learning center, a bike shop and terrain park, an RV park, and a visitor center. The next public meeting is anticipated to take place in approximately three months.

The Town of Silver City has announced a name change for its “warming center” program, which will now be known as the Haven Winter Center to distinguish it from the Silver City Warming Center on College Avenue, an independently operated facility. The Haven Winter Center is open daily from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., with a hot meal served at approximately 5:30 p.m., and operates on nights when temperatures are forecast to be 40 degrees or below. The program is designed to provide a zero-barrier, safe, and welcoming environment where individuals who typically sleep outdoors can warm up, rest, and find shelter during cold weather conditions.
