The Silver City Ranger District is preparing to implement a prescribed fire within the 251-acre Mulberry 1 project area, scheduled for early to mid-March, depending on resource availability and favorable weather and fuel conditions. Situated 2 miles southwest of the Oak Grove subdivision and 2 miles west of Burro Mountain Homestead, the project aims to reduce hazardous fuels near these two wildland-urban interface communities. The prescribed fire’s primary objective is to eliminate slash remaining from recent thinning projects aimed at enhancing mule deer habitat.
