The New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration announced the award of $50 million in grants to support the development and expansion of recreational facilities, trails, and parks throughout the state. This funding cycle supports 128 projects statewide, reflecting New Mexico’s continued commitment to enhancing quality of life, promoting community well-being, and expanding regional recreational opportunities. Among the awarded projects are citywide park upgrades in the Village of Columbus, recreation center enhancements in the Town of Hurley, and the development of a new children’s recreation and bicycle pump track area in the Village of Santa Clara.

The Town of Silver City has announced that its swearing-in ceremony for the Mayor and Town Councilors is scheduled for tomorrow, December 30 at 10 a.m. The event will be held at the Grant County Administration Center, located at 1400 Highway 180 East, where newly elected officials will formally be sworn into their roles in local government. A federal court has granted full summary judgment in a lawsuit led by the New Mexico Attorney General and a coalition of states, ordering the U.S. Department of Education to reverse its cancellation of school mental health grants. The ruling restores funding authorized under the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, legislation spearheaded by Senator Martin Heinrich, and ensures that more than 5,000 New Mexico students—including those in rural districts like Silver Consolidated Schools—will again have access to school-based mental health professionals.  The ruling reaffirms the requirement that federal agencies adhere to the law and cannot terminate congressionally authorized programs based on shifting political priorities.
