Amplified Therapy and Edward Jones in Silver City is presenting “Pictures with Santa and the Grinch” this Wednesday, December 20th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. There will be coco and fun Christmas activities for children of all ages. Pictures with Santa will take place at Amplified Therapy located at 208 Highway 180 West and pictures with the Grinch will be at Edward Jones located at 210 Highway 180 West Suite 100. 

The Bayard Police Department has introduced “McGruff the Crime Dog” as one of its newest members to join the force. McGruff the Crime Dog will be utilized throughout the Bayard Neighborhood Watch Program to help clean up streets, reduce crime in the community and make appearances at events throughout Bayard. The goal is to help encourage and teach students how to protect themselves from substance abuse, bullies and how to deal with any suspicious behavior they may encounter. 

Interested in learning and exploring more about the Gila Cliff Dwellings? Join the staff at the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Park and become a volunteer. Volunteers serve visitor and park needs and are involved in leading guided hike tours, assisting visitors by sharing information, performing maintenance projects and staff the Gila Visitor Center and Western National Parks Association store. This year, Grant County’s “Shop with a Cop” was able to extend a helping hand to 63 students in the community. Silver City Police officers, Silver High School students and the 3rd grade team from Harrison Schmitt Elementary School all came together to coordinate and assist the program so that students from across the Silver City School District could participate and be a part of this meaningful event. Elected leaders, business owners, economic development advocates, youth leaders, conservationists and students have come together in a collaborative effort to call for national monument protections for lands overseen by the Bureau of Land Management in Luna County. A proposal has been created and shared that would conserve Indigenous cultural and historical resources while boosting the recreation economy through the creation of Mimbres Peaks National Monument near Deming. Approximately 245,000 acres in the Mimbres Peak have been identified for permanent protection which are homes to documented cultural and historic sites, are important to modern day tribes and pueblos and provide critical water resources.
