The Town of Silver City will hold its Regular Council Meeting on August 27th at 6:00 p.m. at the Grant County Administration Center, located at 1400 Highway 180 East. During this session, the Council will consider proposed amendments to the town’s smoking regulations and review modifications to the affordable housing program, including provisions for donations to housing projects. Additionally, the Council will deliberate on the possibility of holding a closed session to evaluate the Town Manager’s performance in overseeing the Silver City Police Department. The public is invited to attend.

During their recent board meeting, the Mayor of the Village of Santa Clara announced plans to enhance the Santa Clara Senior Center using capital outlay funds for fiscal year 2026. The funds will be used to introduce more senior-friendly activities, such as bingo, dances, and a monthly birthday celebration for all attendees. In addition, the senior center will receive essential repairs, including new furnaces, a new water heater, door replacements, and updated kitchen equipment. These improvements are aimed to boost both the functionality and enjoyment of the center and to help enhance the quality of life for all seniors that attended the center.

The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish has announced that the Glenwood hatchery is currently undergoing a complete renovation of its water delivery system and production facility in order to produce Gila Trout. Phase one, which included rebuilding of an existing water infiltration pipe, construction of a water lift station and a new production building that will be utilized to hatch fish eggs and raise small fish, has been completed. Phase two, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year, will include brood stock buildings to house Gila Trout Brood fish, installation of metal enclosures over major raceways, new outfall for effluent water diversion to Glenwood Pond and irrigation fields and the installation of two manholes that will house water meters that measure total effluent water discharge.
