The Gila National Forest has updated its forest order limiting the length of stay on the entire forest to 14 days. The reason for this order is to help protect natural resources from degradation due to long term use and to maximize the availability of camping areas to all recreational users. The order is in effect now until May 18, 2025 and includes all National Forest System lands administered by the Gila National Forest. For more information go to website.
Congratulations to Lieutenant Christian Orozco of Deming, who obtained his advanced-level Fire Inspector 2 IFSAC and International Code Council certifications. Mr. Orozco is the sole fire inspector for the City of Deming and works to ensure the safety of new businesses by conducting inspections for compliance codes. The City of Deming recently recognized Mr. Orozco for his commitment to the profession and his dedication to protecting the community.
The Hidalgo Youth Conservation Corps is looking for youth in Hidalgo county to work as crew members. There will be two 6 week programs where youth will be able to earn money while riding bikes, hiking, taking drone pictures and more. The first program will run from June 12th through the 30th, with the second running July 10th through the 28th. The deadline to apply is tomorrow, June 1st. Deming Animal Guardians will be having a pet food giveaway on June 3rd. They will be providing spay/neuter coupons and information on the services they provide to the community. Aldo Leopold Charter School alumna, Ajalaa Claussen has been selected to serve as an intern for United States Representative Gabe Vasquez this summer in Washington, D.C. Ms. Claussen just completed her junior year at the University of Southern California and is majoring in political science and Spanish. She is interested in a career in politics and hopes her experience as an intern this summer will help her further understand politics at a national level.
