At the time of this report, the New Mexico Department of Health, announced 5,938 New Mexico COVID-19 confirmed positive cases. There have been 133,253 tests performed statewide, 211 current COVID-19 related hospitalizations, and 1,755 cases designated as having recovered according to the Department of Health. In addition, sadly there has been 265 COVID-19 related deaths recorded statewide. Positive COVID-19 cases in Grant County remain at 16, Luna County with 8 cases, Catron County remaining at 2, Sierra County with 1 case, and Hidalgo County with no confirmed cases.
An updated statewide public health order was released over the weekend that eased some COVID-19 related requirements and left some the same. Some of the new requirements included the following:
- Individuals must wear masks in public spaces
- Retailers may operate at 25% of fire code capacity along with COVID-19 safety practices in place.
- Other non-essential businesses including office spaces may operate with up to 25% of pre-existing staffing levels.
- Houses of Worship may operate at 25% occupancy
Individuals are still advised to stay at home, especially of sick or vulnerable, to not congregate in groups, maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet, and high intensity contact services like dine-in restaurants, salons and gyms will remain closed at this time.
Grant County Bureau of Elections Director, Elizabeth Trujillo has announced that due to the COVID-19 virus, the county has reduced their polling locations for the June 2nd Primary election. The four voting convenience centers will be located at:
- Grant County Administration Building
- Bayard Community Center
- San Lorenzo Elementary School
- Grant County Fairgrounds Exhibit Building on Cliff
All the Voting Convenience Centers and will be open from 7 am to 7 pm on Tuesday, June 2nd so all eligible registered voters can choose to vote at any one of the locations. Grant County will be following social distancing guidelines and are encouraging the use of face masks.
