According to Governor Michell Lujan Grisham, New Mexico has adopted the CDC’s updated COVID-19 guidance on masks for those who are fully vaccinated. As per the CDC, fully vaccinated individuals are no longer required to wear a mask in most circumstances. In addition, all individuals who are unvaccinated or not yet fully vaccinated, are still required per the health order to wear a mask in public settings. New Mexicans are encouraged to continue to follow safe practices and businesses and workplaces may continue to require masks of employees and/or customers regardless of their vaccination status. As per CDC guidance, masks will continue to be worn by all individuals in the following settings:

  • Health care settings including but not limited to hospitals, long-term care facilities, and doctors’ offices
  • All Correctional facilities
  • Homeless shelters
  • Public transportation including but not limited to buses, trains, and planes and in transportation hubs such as airports and stations

The CDC’s guidance for school settings remains unchanged at this time.

In other COVID news, Luna County has announced that as of today, the County Courthouse is open for business to the general public. Visitors will still be required to wear a mask and observe all COVID safety protocols.

The Gila National Forest has released information regarding the Doagy Fire, located on the Black Range Ranger District, northeast of the Beaverhead Administrative site, near Doagy and Corduroy Canyons in Sierra County. The fire started on Friday, May 14th and as of the time of this report has covered 180 acres. It has been determined that lighting is the cause of this fire.
